Excavation in Pocatello
Pocatello brings new-construction site work - foundation and basement dig-outs, utility trenches, finish grading - plus acreage properties on the edges that need septic and driveways. The foothills add rock and slope that flatter ground does not.
Pocatello is the east end of what we cover. We run it as full route days so several jobs get done on one trip and nobody pays for the drive.
The most-requested work in Pocatello is septic system installation on acreage and new builds, followed by gravel driveways and approaches and pads for shops and barns. New construction brings foundation and basement dig-outs and water, sewer and power trenches. For lots that have gotten away from someone, we do brush mowing and land clearing, regrading to move water away from buildings, and tear-down and haul-off of old sheds, fences and slabs.

Timing
When to book excavation work in Pocatello
Idaho ground has a season for everything. Spring brings mud and high water, so that is when drainage and grading problems show themselves and when trenches want to wait a few weeks. Summer is the working season for pads, foundations, driveways and septic installs, and the schedule fills up fastest. Fall is the last window for septic and foundation work before the frost sets, and it is the time to fix the driveway and the drainage before winter finds them. Winter work is limited to what can be done in frozen ground, which is not nothing - clearing, demolition and some grading carry on - but anything that needs a perc test or a compacted lift waits for thaw. In Pocatello that calendar runs about like it does everywhere else in the valley, with the east side freezing a little earlier and thawing a little later.
Estimates
Free on-site estimates, in writing
Four things set the price on excavation work. We walk the property, look at all four, and hand you one written number before anything gets dug.
- AccessCan the excavator and dump trailer get to the work without wrecking the yard? Tight lots and soft ground add time.
- Soil and rockMagic Valley ground goes from sandy loam to basalt a foot down. Rock changes the machine, the pace and the price.
- Haul-off and materialsDirt hauled away, gravel and road base hauled in, concrete to the recycler. Distance to the pit or the dump sets the cost.
- Permits and locatesSeptic permits, inspections and utility locates are part of the job and part of the estimate, not an add-on at the end.
How it works
Four steps, no surprises
- 01Call or text
Tell us what you need done and where. Photos of the site help, and a rough sketch of what you have in mind helps more.
- 02We walk the site
Free on-site estimate. We look at access, slope, soil, what is buried and where the water goes, then give you a written number.
- 03Locates and permits
Utility locates are called before any digging. Septic permits and inspections are scheduled with the health district.
- 04Dug, graded, cleaned up
The work gets done to grade, compacted where it needs to be, and the site is raked back so it is ready for whoever comes next.
